The weather has started getting colder as we move towards the end of the year and into the winter season. As all North Carolina residents know, once the first few flakes of snow hit the ground, we need to be able to get to the store for milk, eggs, and bread for that vital snow day French Toast breakfast.

Most people know Honda for its sturdy sedans and family-friendly SUV’s. But many people are surprised to learn that Honda is also a major player in the auto racing world.

In fact, the very first car Honda built in 1963 was a sports car, proof that the corporation and its founder — Soichiro Honda — had a need for speed from day one.

The Honda Performance Development, Inc. (HDP) was founded in 1993 and is based in Santa Clarita, California. The HDP specializes in the research, design, and development of racing engines and high-performance parts for open-wheel, sports car, and grassroots racing.

Honda racing was on full display at the 2016 Indianapolis 500, where 17 of the 33 total drivers took to the starting line in a Honda racecar including the winner, Alexander Rossi. In fact, Rossi’s victory made it 11 of the last 13 years in which the winning car has sported a Honda engine under the hood.

The first generation Honda Ridgeline was retired in 2014 but consumers’ demand for this unique pickup truck did not. After taking a hiatus following nine years of production, fans of this vehicle immediately began wondering when the Honda Ridgeline redesign would happen.

The second generation Honda Ridgeline was released in late June of 2016 for the 2017 model year and just like its predecessor, it has the attention of drivers everywhere. Edmunds gave the Ridgeline an ‘A’ rating in its 2017 review, and it’s easy to see why.

The New and Improved Honda Ridgeline Pickup

The biggest difference you’ll notice in the redesigned Ridgeline is the shape of the body. While the first generation softly blended the cabin and bed together at a 135-degree angle, the new Ridgeline sports a more distinguished, traditional pickup look with a cabin and bed more sharply contrasted at a 95-degree angle. Saturday morning: Don’t stay out too late because the Asheboro Downtown Farmers’ Market opens at 7:00 am. This farmers’ market is only open for a few more weeks so take advantage of all those fresh summer strawberries and watermelons while you still can.  

Saturday afternoon: Cruise your Honda over to the North Carolina Zoo to catch the Birds of Prey exhibit that’s happening on Saturday only. You may want to keep the sunroof closed for this one.

Saturday night: Head over to Four Saints Brewing Company. The tap room stays open until 11:00 pm and Tyler Millard will be performing live music beginning at 7:00 pm.

Sunday morning: Take in the great outdoors by visiting Birkhead Mountain Wilderness for a nice hike or Lake Reese for a Sunday stroll in a canoe.

Sunday afternoon: Fore! Catch an afternoon tee time at the popular Tot Hill Farm Golf Club and swing hard in case you hit it.

Sunday night: Take a break from the heat by heading over to Cinemark Asheboro to catch a showing of The Secret Life of Pets, Ben-Hur or other films. While sitting through the previews, think about how you don’t have to go to work the next day.

Monday morning: Sleep in! You don’t get to do that too often on Mondays so take advantage of this golden opportunity.

Monday afternoon: Climb out of bed and into a zip line at Richland Creek Zip Line Canopy Tour.

Monday evening: Zip over to Bicentennial Park to catch Blackwater Rhythm & Blues Band perform as part of the Asheboro Summer Concert Series. Spend zero time thinking about work the next day.
